The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) has condemned the terrorist attack targeting worshippers at a church in Karak Governorate, affirming its solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its King, government, and people, in confronting terrorism. The Council also expressed its support for Jordan’s efforts to protect its citizens and safeguard its security, stability, and civil peace.

In a statement issued today, the Council said that targeting civilians and places of worship constitutes a crime against shared human values and an assault on the rights to life, security, and freedom of belief. It added that the perpetrators of such crimes seek to spread fear, incite discord, and undermine coexistence, underscoring the need to strengthen solidarity among members of society and protect the national fabric.

The Council reiterated its firm rejection of terrorism in all its forms, regardless of its source, the identity of its perpetrators, or the parties supporting it. It rejected any attempt to justify terrorism on religious, political, or ideological grounds, stressing that the blood of innocent people leaves no room for selective condemnation and that confronting terrorism is a shared responsibility requiring a clear and consistent stance against all its crimes.

The Council emphasized the importance of strengthening Arab, regional, and international cooperation in combating terrorism through information sharing, cutting off sources of funding and recruitment, preventing perpetrators from finding safe havens, and pursuing them and holding them accountable in accordance with the law.

It also stressed that an effective response requires more than security measures alone. Educational, cultural, and media efforts are equally necessary to counter hate speech and incitement and protect societies from extremist ideologies, while respecting human rights and upholding the rule of law.

The statement noted that, in keeping with the Council’s inclusive political identity, which brings together Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, and Assyrians, the protection of religious and ethnic diversity and the consolidation of equal citizenship constitute fundamental pillars of civil peace. It stressed that protecting places of worship is a shared responsibility that must not distinguish between one religion and another or one community and another.

The Council affirmed that Jordan’s security and stability are important pillars of regional security, adding that standing in solidarity with the country in confronting terrorism is both a humanitarian duty and a matter of principle.

The Syrian Democratic Council extended its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the victims’ families, His Majesty King Abdullah II, and the brotherly Jordanian people. It wished the injured a speedy recovery and expressed confidence in the ability of Jordanians to confront this crime through unity, social cohesion, and a steadfast commitment to the values of coexistence.
